Layer it on thick!

Whether you're using your drapes to sneak behind and scare a loved one or to block out the sun for an extra five minutes of sleep on a Monday morning, I'm here to offer insight—beyond the typical home drapery sense!

As many of you know, I draw inspiration from high fashion. According to the Impressionist, draped fashion is a timeless style that imparts fluidity and lightness to an object. The same principle applies to interiors. As rule #19 suggests, lightness in a space can be achieved in ways that go beyond the literal (think: draping). While traditional curtains and drapery might come to mind, there are so many more ways to incorporate this concept into your home.

Drapery in decor can serve as a unique and beautiful accent. A great example of this is Wretched Flowers recent launch of draped metal mesh lamps. The fluidity and lightness added through a traditionally harder material creates an impressive visual interest, all while remaining easy on the eyes.

Beyond lighting and window treatments, the movement of flowing drapery can even inspire furniture design. As you'll see in the second image, this flowing form can be carved into wooden furniture to create statement pieces, like a cadenza beneath your favorite art or TV frame. Or, perhaps an actual framed piece of art (but I'll leave that to your discretion!).

I'm also a big fan of skirting open space on furniture and appliances. For instance, the third image features a unique sink skirt application. This not only softens the space visually but also serves a practical purpose, offering a simple way to conceal storage areas you’d rather keep out of sight.

Ultimately, interior drapery can be applied in so many ways, and you can go as minimalist or as bold (see the first image!) as you like. As long as you feel you’ve created something beautiful, I say, go for it!
