France was beautiful.
My boyfriend, Ben, and I decided, on a whim, to take a trip to the south of France in January. We toured the mesmerizing streets of Nice and the alleys of Eze, encountering the many wonders of food, wine, clothes, and so much more. I could go on and on about all of these things and how they can all make your life beautiful, but I’ve decided to narrow in on the antiques.
I don’t know about you, but I, for one, always want to bring something back home when on a memorable trip. However, I always end up bringing back trinkets that are then placed around the house with no purpose or reason. They end up cluttering my shelves and making the space look overwhelming.
Luckily, before going on the trip, I received a lot of insight from interior design gurus. Look out for the antiques! A place with such rich history is bound to have a plethora of items passed down from generation to generation, in search of a new home. And in the style era of “grandmacore,” it would be a crime to turn down such an opportunity.
Some of the best areas to explore for such antiques in Nice are the Golden Square, Rue Catherine Segurane, Old Town, and of course the markets. For instance, when heading back to our Airbnb in Old Town, we passed some gorgeous antique stores on the Golden Square and browsed for what seemed like hours. And the best part was that we were surrounded by delicious restaurants right next door. So once we felt satisfied with our selections, we could treat ourselves to a celebratory glass of wine and steak frites.
So, if you happen to be planning a trip to the south of France, or if this has inspired you to go, these are the items to keep an eye out for:
Paintings are a great item to place in your suitcase when traveling overseas. An antique painting is a great addition to your home to invite wandering eyes and bring in a story.
Dishware is another great item to keep in mind when antiquing in France. Not only is it easy to transport, but it will add so much glamour to your next dinner party.
Fabrics and pillows are something people don’t think about when antiquing but are nonetheless great additions to a unique and decorated home.
Now, if you are feeling brave, the furniture is absolutely to die for! Talk about function meets form; French antique furniture is built to last and looks stunning in any home.
No matter what your style is, adding an antique item to your home is bound to make a statement. Whether it is a piece of art or an ornate chair, bringing back an antique from France will not only give you a constant memory of what hopefully was an amazing trip but make your home that much more beautiful.
