Time to declutter!
If you are anything like me, you may or may not still have your holiday decor up. But I’m here to tell us all—it’s time to say goodbye. The holidays bring so much joy and comfort, especially through our seasonal decorations. But, just as the holidays themselves do, it can get a little overwhelming after living with it all for a couple of weeks. Sound like a familiar family gathering? I am just joking! No matter how hectic, we all end up missing our families after spending so much time in close quarters. And just like that, we’ll miss our holiday decor when we start putting it away. We might even feel a little sad… maybe shed a tear. But fear not! This is a perfect opportunity to start fresh.
So, how do we begin redecorating—or rather, transitioning back to our regular decor—after taking down the holiday decorations? Well, I think we have a few options:
The first—and probably most intuitive—is to return to what you had before. But maybe you can’t quite remember what arrangement you loved so much? Here’s a tip for next year: take a photo of your everyday decor so you can remember where everything goes. You can also store your everyday decor in the bins or boxes where you previously had your holiday decor.
Another approach is to try something completely new. Maybe you got some extra spending money over the holidays? Why not invest in some new pieces? Here are a few of my current favorites:
Art from Casa Gusto. Currently obsessed with the 18th C. Gustavian Paitning of Coffee Shop Brawl.
Trinkets from Les Collection. Love the Box Box in Emerald.
Vases from Helle Mardahl Studio. The Basin is adorable and could be perfect for a small floral arrangement.
And then there’s the last approach, which might be the hardest but is secretly my favorite: rule #22 - Keep It Simple, Sweetie (or KISS, as I like to say). Okay, maybe I borrowed that phrase from The Office, but it’s true—it can be just the refresh we need. Consider going minimal, and maybe add more throughout the year as you feel inspired. Sometimes, less really is more. Especially after all the busyness of holiday decor, your eyes could use a break. You might choose to add just one large candle on your coffee table, or a delicate vase with a few dainty flowers on your console. Keep your mantel simple with a favorite piece of art, and let that corner of your living room breathe with just a simple chair and floor lamp.
No matter which direction you choose, I recommend paring down rather than overdoing it—and you can always add more later. After all, you can always make it more beautiful!
